Jackson explained to us that Reynolds Garden stylized English gardens where General Eisenhower built up Overlord at Southwick House. SHAEF badge is represented on the ground with the sword and the rainbow by the raw of flowers.

On February 2008 we did a family trip to visit Bedford Memorial. We had an exceptional welcome, Jackson our guide escorted us and vividly described the Memorial. His explanations were amazing. We have been fascinated by the whole site and also with all the projects in coming years.

Make sure, before visiting Normandy D-Day Beach to spend time to visit this Memorial. It will be a key to understand a lot more about Overlord.

A massive bronze represents Pointe du Hoc assault on D-Day. The 2rd Ranger Bn Commanded by James. E. Rudder did an heroic scale to secure this German strong point position overlooking Omaha and Utah Beach. A stunning treatment of teamwork, Scaling the Wall also animates the qualities of valor, fidelity, and sacrifice that give the Memorial its reason for being.  

Located at the southern limit of Elmon T. Gray Plaza, the Memorial ' s generalized landing tableau represents the AEF ' s action on all five beaches. Vigorous figurative sculpture, beach obstacles, a stylized landing craft, and simulations of impacting defensive fire combine to convey Operation Overlord ' s epic scope.

General Eisenhower at Southwick House, looks at the sealink representing Overlord map layout. Jackson told us that all around the garden, are piedestals with busses representing a great number of people involved in the operation, including Germans.

After your Memorial visit, drive throught the Mountain to Lexington to visit George Marshal Museum located in Virginia Military Institute.

I also recommend this visit, for me General Marshal is one of the most admirable men of this century. The museum is well displayed and gives a very good idea of the Marshal plan which really was at the base of the reconstruction of Europe .
